MECHANICAL ENGINEER (STARSHIP) SpaceX is committed to developing revolutionary space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets. The Starship Mechanical Engineer will support the development of SpaceX's Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket (collectively referred to as Starship), a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Design and certify mechanical systems that meet customer and SpaceX requirements for SpaceX's next generation rocket. + Utilize the full spectrum of the design, analysis, test, and manufacturing tools to create efficient structures and components. + Ownership of product delivery timeline through conception, design, assembly and launch. + Develop test plans for parts through development, qualification and acceptance testing. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. + Experience with CAD and FEA software packages. + 1+ years of experience with mechanical/electromechanical design and analysis (internship experience qualifies). PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: + Masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline. + 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis. + 2+ years of hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems, preferably as a lead. + Solid understanding and application of GD&T. + Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems. + Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: + Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary. ITAR REQUIREMENTS: + To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
