Starship Sensor Fabrication Engineer, Sr at SpaceX Hawthorne, CA, United States SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. SENSOR FABRICATION ENGINEER The Sensor Development team designs, builds, and tests innovative sensing solutions that are critical to making life on Mars possible. The Sensor Fabrication Engineer will work on this highly interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to fabricate physical sensors, such as accelerometers and gyroscopes. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Fabricate and develop fabrication processes for navigation sensors for SpaceXs vehicles with a focus on accelerometers and gyroscopes + Develop processes and fabrication techniques for the sensors along with evaluation and selection of needed equipment + Complete fabrication processes including but not limited to photolithography, thin film deposition processes, and bonding + Design photolithography masks and out of plane structures + Complete optical and electrical inspections to ensure device architecture is being achieved during fabrication + Provide sensor packaging guidance and design inputs + Participate in design reviews + Investigate test or sensor failures and communicate/execute recommended actions BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: + Master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or other engineering discipline + 1+ years of experience working on navigation sensors (e.g. gyroscopes or accelerometers) + Semiconductor fabrication experience working within MEMS devices PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: + 2+ years of experience working on navigation sensors (e.g. gyroscopes or accelerometers) + Knowledge of various sensing technologies available and experience controlling and calibrating navigation sensors + Excellent communication and teamwork skills + Extensive knowledge of navigation sensors, including design and fabrication + Sensor fabrication experience having completed photolithography, thin film depositions, etching, and lift-off processes + Experience evaluating and selecting fabrication equipment + Experience developing custom fabrication tools ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: + Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones ITAR REQUIREMENTS: + To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
