Flight Reliability Engineer at SpaceX Hawthorne, CA, United States SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. FLIGHT RELIABILITY ENGINEER (SYSTEM SAFETY & RELIABILITY) This team is responsible for figuring out how to keep the public, personnel, and passengers safe as SpaceX works to fly novel, challenging missions at high cadence. You will have the opportunity to work with all engineering teams to help understand failure scenarios, informing the design of vehicles that are highly autonomous, capable of long-duration missions, with high reliability. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Perform reliability analyses for complex systems (quantitative and qualitative) + Review systems, identify failure modes, scenarios (i.e. work to put strong engineering controls in place, with the right verifications) + Work with engineers to review and mitigate risks + Provide probabilistic and statistics advice to engineers developing test programs + Study control loops to identify fault detection, isolation, recovery methods + Build engineering models to understand failure propagation BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline, physics, statistics or math + Professional, internship, or project experience in a multidisciplinary role (i.e. engineering roles in manufacturing, integration, reliability, technical program management, or operations) PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: + Advanced degrees in engineering with reliability analysis experience through research and/or internships + Experience in launch vehicles, spacecraft or other aerospace systems + Background in electronics or avionics + Demonstrated ability to code in Python and other languages + Ability to think out-of-the-box, motivate people to think imaginatively of how things can break + Experience with physics, statistics, probability theory + Ability to explain the above concepts to the lay-person, strong communication skills, ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment + Practical experience in hardware development + Professional experience with complex mechanical systems ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: + Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed ITAR REQUIREMENTS: + To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
