Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.MANUFACTURING ENGINEER, THERMAL PROCESSING AND PLASMA SPRAY SYSTEMS (RAPTOR)As the Manufacturing Engineer for Raptor production at SpaceX, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop, implement and optimize the production process for key sub-assemblies and components for the Raptor engine.RESPONSIBILITIES: Design, develop, and deliver to production, advanced processes to manufacture Raptor engine components and subassembliesOwn the vacuum furnace brazing and heat-treating processes supporting Raptor production and multiple other departmentsSustain vacuum furnace production performance through regular maintenance and coordinate major repair projects and furnace relocations/installationsOwn the development and implementation of new air plasma spray (APS) processes, including the installation and qualification of new systemsDevelop, demonstrate, and drive to completion innovative production processes to support high rate production targetsWork with an extremely fast paced environment and adapt to evolving design and production challengesMaintain a sense of ownership for all aspects of the engine including, design, fabrication, and delivery scheduleDrive design and process changes that support program goals, through demonstration of feasibilityWork closely with design engineers, development engineers and fabrications shops (internal and external) to get parts built and assembledWork closely with technicians and production management to facilitate day-to-day production of Raptor componentsAssist with design, analysis, and integration of Raptor sub-assemblies to resolve off-nominal non-conformance and develop sustainable repair proceduresResolve recurring manufacturing discrepancies and interface with quality team to implement corrective actionsBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline2+ years of industry experience in product design, development, fabrication, assembly, or test experiencePREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:5+ years of industry experience in product design, development, fabrication, assembly or test experienceBackground in vacuum furnace brazing/heat treating of aerospace metals and metal alloysExperience in design/development of air plasma spray (APS), arc spray, high velocity oxygen fueled (HVOF) or low pressure plasma spray (LPPS) processesProject management experience of capital projects (tooling, facilities, and equipment)Experience taking products or processes through development cycle to full volume productionExperience with hardware test methodologies including structural testing and nondestructive evaluation (NDE)Experience with large welded assemblies and aerospace alloys (aluminum, Inconel, niobium)Experience in a medium/high-volume production environment within the aerospace industryExperience with design for manufacturability and assemblyExperience with Siemens NX CAD or similar, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD) for component and tooling designKnowledge in pressure and leak testing using instrumentation such as flow meters, pressure transducers and thermocouplesADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:This is a hands-on position that may require standing for up to 4 hours a day and working directly with hardware on the floorAble to stoop, bend, stand, and enter a confined spacePosition may require extended hours and weekend workITAR REQUIREMENTS:To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
