AVIONICS TECHNICAL WRITER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact with engineers, subject matter experts, and production personnel to create and edit assembly and test work instructions or specifications
  • Interpret engineering documentation to create accurate technician-oriented work instructions and process documents that fully meet design intent
  • Incorporate redlines from engineering and production into existing documents and web-based instructions
  • Maximize process and instruction efficiency and reduce the probability of technician error
  • Creatively overhaul and re-design any project or workflow to optimize comprehension, while meeting requirements
  • Develop advanced tools to improve production and tech writer interfaces, to optimize content delivery and limit manual content maintenance (through implementing single source publishing or automation solutions within the internal work instruction and documentation applications)
  • Creatively produce solutions for special projects: technical, training, graphic design, web content design, or workflow development
  • Assist with the standardization of content owned by avionics technical writing team.
  • Take ownership of the process of instruction creation and movement, pulling resources from responsible parties in engineering and production, to create accurate and comprehensible content in a web-based environment and in Microsoft Word
  • Work with documents within version control software and documentation release systems in order to preserve and manage content integrity and configuration
  • Ability to work under deadlines and to deliver in the midst of changes in project direction

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of experience in the technical writing or planning field
  • 2+ years of experience in planning or technical writing

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated ability to convey technical concepts in various formats for different audience needs
  • Familiarity with single-source publishing and content management software
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse co-workers and personalities in engineering, production, and management; to have insight into their changing needs
  • Ability to quickly learn, absorb, and apply technical content to further develop understanding of electronics assembly and/or test processes
  • Technical writing experience in automotive or aviation industries
  • Familiarity with mechanical processes in a manufacturing environment
  • Capacity to read and understand technical drawings and schematics
  • Strong analytical, project management, computer, communication, and writing skills (typing, spelling, grammar)
  • Experience with creation and editing of 2D and 3D graphics, both raster- and vector-based
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with electronics
  • Experience converting engineering instructions and information into content intended for a variety of audiences and ability levels
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products (especially: Word)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
