RF/POWER ELECTRONICS SIMULATION ENGINEER As a member of our fast-paced electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) team, you will be responsible for ensuring electronics performance through some of the harshest and varied electromagnetic environments imaginable. Your primary focus will be on EMC and radio design efforts surrounding the Starlink system, including the phased array dish used to communicate with the Starlink satellite internet constellation as well as support hardware (GPS, WLAN, ground stations) with a focus on electromagnetic optimization. The E3 team at SpaceX performs exhaustive analysis, design, and test at the board, unit, subsystem, and system levels with opportunity to interact with a vast array of spacecraft and ground support equipment hardware and electronics. As a Starlink product simulation engineer you will be working with RF, antenna, electrical, mechanical, reliability and production teams to ensure that EMC and radio compliance is guaranteed by design in final products. In parallel, you will reinforce the critical role the E3 team plays in the advancement of worldwide broadband satellite internet access that is safe, reliable, inexpensive, and innovative to space with the fundamental goal of expanding human space exploration capabilities. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Design products for EMC and radio compliance with a variety of EMC and radio directive consumer and commercial compliance standards + Perform computational simulation of RF, power and signal architectures at the PCBA and sub circuit level utilizing Cadence, CST, HFSS, EMA3D, CLARITY or other EM solvers as well as RF circuit simulation tools (AWR, ADS, Genesys, etc.) with demonstrated correlation to measured data + Perform and teach electromagnetic compatibility design and analysis + Perform high frequency and low frequency analysis and design relating to effects of circuit and power system grounding architectures, circuit isolation, shielding effectiveness, radiated/conducted emissions, near field/far field electrodynamics, computational electromagnetics + Troubleshoot EMI issues from board to system level BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, physics, or other engineering discipline + 2+ years of experience in electromagnetic environmental effects + Experience programming in Python + Experience performing modeling and computational simulation of electrical circuit behavior PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: + Experience performing analysis related to antenna and RF system design, electric motor, transformer design, signal integrity, power integrity + Knowledge of materials and their electrical properties (including conductivity, volume resistivity, surface resistance, permeability and permittivity, polarizability, shielding effectiveness, skin depth, etc.) + Demonstrated experience troubleshooting EMI/EMC events from board to system level + Knowledge of EMC standards (CISPR, IEC, EN55032/35, FCC part 15, MIL-STD 461, DO-160) + Previous work experience with reading, interpreting and following: circuit schematics, PCB layouts, engineering drawings, BOMs, cable harnesses, wiring schematics, interface diagrams, layout drawings, mechanical drawings and CAD software + Able to adapt to constantly changing work assignments + Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy + Excellent verbal and written communication skills ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: + Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones ITAR REQUIREMENTS: + To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
