Job Description:

The Sr. Industrial Designer will be responsible for the conceptual development of Starlink consumer products as well as improvements to production quality and perceived value. Candidate must excel at common design deliverables; sketches, prototypes, CMF, graphic design, and visualization as it pertains to customer experience and product quality.


  • Conceptualize and design new prototypes for product trades and development milestones
  • Create and execute design solutions for problems of form, usability, physical ergonomics, and brand development and present accordingly
  • Provide design expertise and feedback for product development
  • Support engineering department with class-a surfacing and sketch models ranging from broad design themes to component-level design
  • Collaborate with the development team to complete prototypes as necessary
  • Aid and develop prototyping process within SpaceX, which meets engineering and program milestones
  • Work with color and materials to create a unified vision for the designs
  • Work with suppliers to achieve the best possible product in terms of craftsmanship, cost, and engineering


  • Bachelor's degree in a design discipline (industrial, transportation, product, architecture, etc.) and 5+ years of professional experience in industrial design, or 7+ years of professional experience in industrial design
  • Experience with prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly processes
  • Experience with a digital modeling platform (NX, Solidworks, Rhino, Autodesk, etc.) and Adobe Suite


  • 5+ years of experience working in an integrated team, including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, or production
  • 5+ years of experience managing large assembly models and tracking historical data
  • 5+ years of experience creating and maintaining cross-functional working relationships and communicating design concepts
  • 5+ years of experience designing consumer products (electronics, toys, household goods, or similar)
  • Proven ability to create and maintain cross-functional working relationships, communicate design concepts, and to deliver successful designs under tight timing constraints


  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as needed
