TRAINING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER (SPACE OPERATIONS)

SpaceX engineers are dedicated to refining all aspects of humankind's presence in space, from the performance of the vehicle humans will travel in, to the innovative training they'll receive for their missions. The team has developed a comprehensive training program to turn recruits into fully certified operations team members who are responsible for the safe and efficient transport of astronauts and cargo into space.

As the team scales up for concurrent Dragon missions to the ISS and future human spaceflight programs, we are tackling our upcoming challenges in innovative ways. As a member of the team, you would focus on transforming how we train mission control operators and astronauts by developing software tools to innovate spaceflight training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop new software tools to revolutionize how we train and equip human spaceflight
  • Simplify and automate training processes to enable scaling up of multiple concurrent Dragon missions on orbit
  • Reduce training hours required per mission through development of an automated training platform and improved training interfaces
  • Integrate the engineering, operations, training and software teams to develop new mission scenarios and increase the fidelity of mission simulation tools

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline
  • Experience across multiple projects utilizing software tools to solve complex problems (Matlab, Python, Java, C++, etc.)
  • Experience with at least one of the following:
  • Providing technical training to an audience that must apply it in an operational environment
  • Real-time mission/test operations on a complex high-performance system

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive familiarity with Python, Git, Stash, Jira and continuous integration testing
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline
  • Previous experience with spacecraft/aircraft engineering or operation
  • Previous experience applying software tools to improve technical learning on a large scale
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Clear verbal and written communication of technical information
  • Able to quickly adapt and change course in a fast-paced environment
  • Insatiable hunger for continuous improvement and innovation

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to occasionally travel
  • Must be willing to work long hours and weekends to support launch operations and critical project timelines
  • Must be able to climb ladders, lift training equipment and spacesuits (25-40lbs), and climb around inside a spaceship
