SR. SOURCING SPECIALIST, COMPOSITES (FALCON)

Falcon 9 is the world's first orbital reusable rocket, driving down cost of space entry and making space more accessible. Our Falcon program provides assured access to space for astronauts, provider for national security payloads, and is critical for the success of Starlink satellites. This role will be integral member of our Falcon rocket strategic sourcing team and the supply chain subject matter expert for composite raw materials and composite part fabrication. Along with managing commodity and supplier strategies a large focus of this role will be eliminating any risk to hitting rate and setting up turnkey solutions to mass produce cost effective rockets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, lead, and execute sourcing strategies with consideration and results for end-to-end supply chain excellence through internal/external collaboration, planning, cost modeling, purchasing, manufacturing, quality assurance, logistics, integration, and reusability
  • Execute long term agreements with strategic suppliers with an emphasis on meeting and exceeding cost, quality, and delivery goals
  • Lead supplier quality, development, and performance teams to execute the strategic sourcing vision of the launch vehicle supply chain team
  • Be the "go to" resource for engineering, supply chain, production, and build reliability stakeholders
  • Determine the best value suppliers, NPI sourcing plans, make vs. buy, should cost, buy complete strategies, lead times optimization, etc.
  • Build cross functional teams internal and external to SpaceX, and champion continuous improvement initiatives to meet or exceed goals
  • Conduct design for manufacturability reviews with support from supplier quality and engineering teams
  • Champion value add value engineering projects to improve part quality and reduce cost
  • Manage a supplier bid-list with preferred suppliers. Mitigate sole/single source risk and ensure continuity of supply
  • Proactively update SpaceX management and engineering teams on all critical supply issues
  • Develop and manage strong supplier relationships and performance to a scorecard
  • Assess supplier technical capability, equipment, capacity, and risk in procurement process
  • Place POs for MRP planning messages for production parts
  • Resolve purchase order discrepancies and invoice issues
  • Analyze procurement data and report metrics

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business or an engineering or science discipline
  • 2+ years of professional experience in supply chain or procurement

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Familiarity or experience working with composites
  • Strong ability to read drawings and blueprints, with understanding of manufacturing complexity
  • Experience with technical procurement, manufacturing, or designing production components
  • APICS certification
  • Lean Six Sigma certification
  • Ability to prove a strong track record of leadership and team building
  • Remarkable problem solving skills with a bias for speed and positive impact
  • Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, produce exceptional work at all times, highly self-motivated
  • Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills in current technologies and applications (e.g. MS Office Suite, SQL, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented, and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment
  • Holds self to highest ethical standards, and conducts all activities with the highest of integrity

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to travel for short and extended trips as needed
  • Able to work extended hours and weekends as needed
